Wicked
Audio wise this thing sounds professional. Mixing, mastering, the beat, the singing on the hook, everything sounds prime. My only comments now go to the writing itself. There's a lot of interesting lines to listen to, but what I'm finding a bit lacking is unity in subject matter. I've read through it a few times and I'm still not sure what happened on the 10th of November other than that some girl left somehow. I think you'll find a lot more power will come from what you write if you bring a bit more focus in it. You don't need a linear story or anything like that, but just tie it all together a bit more. I think that's kinda what I'm trying to say... haha
Regardless, it's a beautiful tune. The kind of thing I would download and listen to. You guys are on my list of people I would like to make a tune with sometime. I'll be back with ideas sometime in the near future.
Wonderful review and I do appreciate all the comments you've made towards this track. As for the writing, you're right but at the same time we find it interesting to see how the audience interprets our tracks. Our lyrics are vague in the sense that we aren't exactly direct with what we're trying to get across but the general theme of this track is Lost Love, simple as that.
The 10th of November is a general date all on it's own. The 10th of November just represents any day or month of the year depending on the person as well since there are plenty of people out there that have lost someone important to them but the date varies. We stuck with 10th of November because it's the original title of the instrumental but in reality, it represents any day and month for anyone.
Another reason to keep this track as mysterious as it is, is because Love itself is very mysterious, the word is just used to describe the feeling but no one can actually tell you what it actually is or what it feels like, only you can decide that for yourself, at least in my opinion. Again, thanks for taking the time to review this track and for the criticism. Stay up.
Quality work, as always
Both sides of transition sound great and I'm diggin them, but in my eyes they don't work well together. The transition is to abrupt for me. That being said I love the intro, reminds me of some of the older Nas. The sample choice on the second parts was also great, gets an underground gritty batman feel for me, haha. The horns you chose all fit well together, and the piano break 2:01 was sick :)
What I really like about this is I feel less repetition than I normally do from hip-hop. I feel like you're taking the song places, which is wicked. Beauty once again :)
Yeah, I tried to have more transitions because all I pretty much had was different loops from each part in the song. The track itself has about 6:30 on it, so there was a lot to go through to get the best pieces, even if they would come in suddenly. But that's your classic 4 bar structure of Hip-Hop always made songs so sudden when it came to break downs and shit.
That sax is bomb!
Haha, funny story. I guess I clicked it open twice by mistake and they opened slightly off, I thought it sounded like shit cause I had two windows open playing it off by a few beats. Man I'm smart!
There's a bit too much crackling going on in the background, but that's a subtle thing bothering me, the rest is solid. Really man, sick beat!
thanks man,
the crackling is cause it's an old record i sampled
Beautiful
I'm definitely feeling a Sigur Ros type vibe. The wood block type percussion is perfect. Lovely work!
Ooh, I love Sigur Ros though to be honest, they didn't cross my mind once during the 9 hours I was making this.
Thanks for the review.
Man, I love organs
One of my favorite instruments. There's a cathedral in Montreal with a huge-ass ground shaking organ, I really want to go play some jazz licks on it! :D
Great tune though, the drum beat goes well with the epic feel I'm getting. There's a lot going on and it all melts together in a fashion that almost makes it hard for me to distinguish what's there. That's when you know you've done a good job mixing! Now, here's a comment: all of your songs fade out! I really wanted this to build into an ending, drop the beat, and just go through a few progressions with the organ hanging there. Or whatever you choose to do, haha! Just give it an ending! Also, just as I'm listening here, there's this mandolin thing in the background that I can hardly hear that happens occasionally. I could be hearing things, but regardless, those quick mandolin type rifs would be excellent here. Yup. I do like the song, dandy work senor!
Thanks man!!! I know... I always fade my shits, lol. I'll try to give this one an actual ending! Sorry for the short response, I'm in a mad rush right now!!
The samples work perfectly together
I'm digging the marimba feel. Also, when the drums cut out at 3:00 you've got the brushes quiet in the background, bring 'em up a bit in my opinion, I like them! Also, I feel like that trumpet sample should be longer, can you sample more of it? Yup. Feel free to reject everything I just said though, I'm just trying to give some constructive feed back. Like always, this song is a damn fine. I'll definitely have it on a play list of songs to practice writing to, if anything good comes out of it I'll let you know.
thanks, feedback is always appreciated. yeah the snare brush would sound pretty good. it goes with the vibraphone sample though so it might be kind of difficult to do so without cranking the vibraphone sound up loud too. i'll see what i can do about it though. i could add the trumpet near the end before the volume goes down...how long would you like it? i'd love to hear a song you write to this so definitely let me know something if you do!
I hear Steve Vai
It really reminded me of that man, in a good way. I found it sounded really messy at the 1:40 mark for a bit, some mixing there is needed. Other than that I loved it!
Thanx for the input.
I re uploaded it with some improvements, better eq-ing and different mix (less side guitars, more drums...etc).
At 1:40 was messy because all the instruments are playing and some of the frequencies got covered by too many instruments, hopefully with the new version is better.
Chill you did acheive
For some reason the sample that comes in at 1:44 really sounds good to me. The transition from the bongos to the drums was also well done. Yup. Noice work sir.
thanks :)
Lovely, as always :)
I think you should fool around with it, add a piano, etc. Experimenting never hurts. Near the 4 minute mark I really like the harmonics you were plucking. Good stuff!
hey thanks for the nice word, sorry i didnt got back to you for what you said the other day about the singing over my guitar tracks but to be honnest i didnt really like what i heard of your hip-hop singing, but no offense, i do respect different styles of music, only my opinion anyways, so, thanks for the compliment on my tune though
