ummmm i don't rap like Bone Thugs sooooo 16 bars is going to take a lot more than 20 seconds on Musty's beat. my verse starts at 0:18 and ends at like 1:05.
^ forgot to mention, my shit is already ready already -- but then i noticed the whole "don't go over your allotted time or I'll ask you to re-record" thing. otherwise i'd be sending it to you right now.
then again i can just split the 16 in half and do 8 lines for each verse. my opponent is hot garbage anyway.

I'd prefer if you kept it at 20 secs or so. I'm still getting 16 bars (or measures) at 20 seconds. If you listen to the snare and count with it you'll see. Or, the simplest method, every two bobs of your head is a measure :)
In a lot of other MC comps they actually don't specify bars, instead they just specify time (like, you get 30 seconds, etc). That makes sense to me, cause bars are subjective and you could count at half time or double time. The drums are what's the most telling though.

are you sure you're listening to the right track? cuz by your own explanation you're still counting them wrong. one snare (or clap, in this case) happens close to once a second. so, if one measure runs a little over two seconds, then how are you getting 16 measures as being only 20 seconds? it's actually double that.
but hey if you want 8 bars instead of 16 that's fine by me
Count it however you like, for this round rap 20 seconds.
so if a beat has 16 bar verse and then followed by an 8 bar chorus part, does the 2nd MC start at the chorus and go 8 bars into the next verse?
I'd just rap over the chorus if you can manage it.
I agree with Steve Guzzi.
I have the same situation with my beat, we've both got those quick 4 counts so it's either a 25 second 8 bar spit or a 50 long 16. It's just an awkward in between rhythm that has to be slow as hell or lightning fast. Just the nature of the beast. In music, a bar is a measure, but the problem is we don't have sheet music to determine if we're going in 2/4 or 4/4.
I'd like to see the longer 16 bars. That's the way it was for damn near every first round match last year and it worked well.
Some of that tracks won't fit longer verses, so I just made it 20-30 seconds across the board to be fair.
