Yea Nimbus, I was looking over them and was doing my crappy little predictions and that's my prediction.
Nimbus vs. Madflex
Grim vs. Suddle

for real, i hope it happens, too. but we've both got some pretty tough match ups coming in the next couple rounds that would be stupid to overlook. the Semifinals are a long way a way, and people have been showing a lot of improve from their hypetracks.

I wanna bring up a topic for some conversation. At first I though that writing lyrics down was a good idea, but it almost seems like it's been more harm than good. It creates a lot of grey space in the voting, and it adds a whole different element that wouldn't be considered otherwise.

My question is, is it a good thing or a bad thing so far? These battles are turning out to involve audio engineering as much as the battles, so when i can't understand people's lyrics, I read them. In that sense, it cancels out the advantages in recording ability. But in the other sense, I feel like if you joined this battle, you should have made sure you had the means of making your lyrics understandable on an audio track. Just thinking out loud so we can all agree on the best way to go about future rounds.

Truthfully, I don't like including lyrics. There's a baseline point of recording quality that needs to be achieved to advance: we need to able to understand the words you speak. At the end of the day these battles will be on a CD with no written lyrics.

In the next rounds I would like to upload the tracks to my account, and likely I will not include lyrics.

Well madflex, I probably have the worst mic out of anybody in here.. believe me.. I do.. I just know how to DJ it up and make it sound as good as I possibly can.. I guess my question is, can you understand my lyrics without reading them?

and most of the editing done in this competition just seemed kind of annoying to me.. the only editing that actually made me laugh was Murdaa's impression of Waus.

Last night I received a PM from my opponent, SKS:

"As it stand right now, people seem to be favoring you. Good on ya, but that SKS line was good, but when I listened to it I heard, "sks your name is fitting because smorgismorg thinks its fitting" So I totally ignored it.

Anyway, it's all a learning experience, but broski on rhymescene and lyrical content, I can murder you anyday. This was my first track I ever recorded and it's not going to be the last."

My response:

"Who are you?"

QSik, I didn't have a problem understanding anything you said, your recording was just fine.

@QSik: My mic at the moment (until my guy finishes moving in his place and gets his audio set up) is on my laptop. If you want to talk about having the crappiest mic in the competition, you will lose that bet hands down. But, I still make sure when I record that I'm easily understood. That way when people talk about the quality I already know is shitty, they can't discount the lyrics or the ability to still understand what I'm saying.

Once my guy lets me know he's set up (because I choose not to have a recording setup at my house), I'll have better recordings. Until then, y'all just have to deal with my laptop mic (provided I move forward from the battle with Mao).

And i am inclined to agree with MadFlex and Red. It sounded better in theory to put the lyrics up on the page. It does help for us to understand what they're saying, but now it's being used more like a crutch to get their punches across so they get the votes they want. So, from here out I also vote to not put the lyrics up and make the artists work harder to be understood.

Stay up,

Nimbus The General

@Nimbus Lol True. I was just sayin' though. I actually think that the lyric sheets are good to have up there.. especially like in the 2nd round where it should be nothing but people that we can actually understand.

your battle was a good example, Nimbus. Listening without the lyrics, you win that battle easily, but when I read the punches on his it gave him some points. I think specifically, people who have very slurred styles and heavy accents need to make sure that their mid ranges are compressed and eq'd, because nearly every word gets lost in the lower levels. it doesn't need to be perfect, but it needs to be understandable.

Lmao.. Havnt i been saying that since the beginning?!

word. but it was worth a try. now that we've given it a try it's good to figure out where to go from here.

So who was telling all of us to put lyrics up?
Im going to take my lyrics down, itll only help me out, you can barely hear ill's second verse...

What is taking these kids so long to finish?
It has been like a week or so...

says GloineFiodh.

@HeIsAlive For real.. That's what Ive been saying! :/

Man, forget y'all wanting to hurry this competition along LOL. The longer I get to wait, the better my quality goes from my laptop mic to an actual mic lmao.

Is your mic slowly morphing over time?

Feck Off flex

;) I'll get it on the next round of updates.
